The chief of staff for the Grand Rapids Police Department is resigning.
Police Chief Eric Payne announced Karianne Thomas' resignation to stakeholders on Friday.
Thomas' hiring in June was met with controversy and protests.
Payne says Thomas joined GRPD and was excited to work with him on their strategic plan, however once he announced his retirement she decided it was time to look for a career outside of law enforcement.
