Fire inside Grand Rapids house results in one person being hospitalized

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Investigators in Grand Rapids are trying to determine what started an early morning fire inside a house on the city's southeast side Friday.

It broke out around 1:40 a.m. on Evergreen Street near Blaine Avenue.

Grand Rapids Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Fankhauser told WOOD Radio what happened.

"We had a structure fire on the second floor," he said. "We were able to quickly extinguish that fire. There was damage done to that room. The occupant was in the home at the time; was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries."

The person's name and age had not been at the time of publication.

The fire was on Evergreen Street near Blaine Avenue, in the Oakdale neighborhood.
