Kent County Parks conducting online survey about Indian Mounds Drive

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Kent County Parks Department says its working with local partners to make the Indian Mounds Drive corridor safer.

So, it is conducting an online study to bring stakeholders together to identify short-term and long-term needs for the area, and develop a plan of action to accomplish community goals. We've posted a link to the survey on the WoodRadio.com website, in the Local News section.

Indian Mounds Drive runs parallel to I-196 (the Gerald R. Ford Freeway) from the south side of Grand Rapids through Wyoming to Grandville.

Here are more details from a Kent County news release:

We're working with local partners to explore ways to make the Indian Mounds Drive corridor safer, more welcoming and better connected for walking, biking, fishing and enjoying nature, while protecting its cultural and ecological significance.

One of the ways we're doing this is through a study, in collaboration with the Grand River Network and other community partners, and public process that will bring stakeholders together to create consensus around a common vision. The goal of the study is to identify short-term and long-term needs for the area and develop a plan of action to accomplish community goals.

This unique four-mile stretch of road and greenspace along the Grand River and directly across from Millennium Park connects the cities of Grand Rapids, Wyoming and Grandville. It also includes the Grand River Burial Mounds, one of the most significant Indigenous burial mound sites in the Midwest.

To build consensus around a common vision for the corridor's future, our Parks Department is leading a study and public process to be carried out in three phases, with final recommendations and an implementation plan expected by Summer 2026. As part of Phase 1, we’re asking for input from stakeholders and regular users of Indian Mounds Drive through this survey. To learn more about this issue and the survey, visit the FAQ.
