New York City Nurse Accused Of Using Credit Card Of Dying COVID-19 Patient

nurse at a hospital in New York City is facing felony charges after police accused her of stealing from one of her patients who was dying from COVID-19. Anthony Catapano was hospitalized at Staten Island University Hospital with coronavirus on April 4. He died eight days later, but when his daughter looked at his credit card statement, she noticed something was off.

First, she saw a charge for gasoline and knew her father always paid cash when he filled up his tank. Then she saw a charge for groceries, which was dated on April 9, when her father was hospitalized.

She contacted the police, and they identified Danielle Conti on surveillance camera footage allegedly using Catapano's credit card at ShopRite.

Conti, 43, was taken into custody and charged with grand larceny, petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Staten Island University Hospital issued a statement saying that Conti, who has worked at the hospital for 13 years, was "temporarily suspended and faces termination in response to the felony charges."

"We are working closely with the law enforcement authorities, and the hospital is conducting its own investigation," the statement said.
