A 75-year-old man from Maine who was missing for four days was found alive in a bog. Officials with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said that Michael Altmaier was reported missing last Monday (July 8) after he failed to show up at a meeting.
On Friday, authorities found his car parked near Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook and began searching the area. Later that day, Game Warden Kayle Hamilton and K9 Ash located Altmaier in a bog about three-quarters of a mile from where his car was parked.
"It is believed Altmaier had fallen down over a ledged embankment Monday and likely became disoriented and ended up in the area of the bog that evening where he eventually had fallen and was unable to get up," the Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife said in a post on Facebook.
Altmaier was airlifted out of the bog and taken to the hospital for observation. Despite being stranded in the wilderness for four days, Altmaier was in "surprisingly good condition."
