Kandice Grace, a 32-year-old woman from Milledgeville, Georgia, has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to children following the death of her seven-year-old son, Mazi Simmons. The young boy was found unresponsive with his head trapped in a car window.
Grace had reportedly driven to a man's residence, leaving her three children in the car. The next morning, the man discovered Grace unconscious in the driver's seat and Mazi's head hanging outside the window. His two younger siblings were unharmed.
Investigators obtained a warrant for Grace's urine and blood samples, which tested positive for opioids and THC. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Grace was under the influence of drugs at the time, leading to her losing consciousness and leaving her children unsupervised. The Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled Mazi's death as accidental by strangulation.
Grace was initially detained in Baldwin County before being transferred to Fulton County Jail.
