The Detroit Tigers are firing general manager Al Avila.
The decision went into effect immediately.
Christopher Illitch, Detroit Tigers Chairman and CEO, said in a statement he wants to re-establish the team's momentum and progress toward building a winning team.
Illitch thanked Avila for his dedication and loyalty over his past 22 years of service.
Avila released a statement saying he gave his heart and soul to the franchise and thanked fans for their support.
