Nonprofit 'Meaning in Colors' to host invite-only holiday pop-up shop

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A non-profit organization that works to empower underprivileged communities and end homelessness will host its annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop on Saturday afternoon at the Paul I. Phillips Boys & Girls Club.

That's on Madison Avenue in southeast Grand Rapids. Meaning in Colors is hosting the invitation-only event from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids and YMCA of Grand Rapids. Iryonna Hogan-Davis is the organization's founder and C-E-O. She says the pop-up shop will provide more than 150 families in need with the opportunity to shop for gifts for loved ones.

"So what we did is we opened a submission. Anybody was able to submit for families in need ... We had gotten 370 families submissions, and we did random selections for 150," Hogan-Davis said.

Each family can shop for up to five children within an assigned two-hour shopping window. The event is held in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Grand Rapids and YMCA of Grand Rapids.

You also can donate new, unwrapped toys, household goods and new or gently-used winter coats for adults or children. Donations will be accepted Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Boys & Girls Club.

The public is invited to support the Meaning in Colors Holiday Pop-Up Shop by donating:

  • Toys: New, unwrapped toys suitable for children of all ages.
  • Household goods: Cleaning supplies, personal care items, kitchenware, etc.
  • Winter coats: New or gently used winter coats for adults and children.

Per a news release: "Pop-Up Shop will also feature a Black Santa onsite for picture opportunities to provide a unique and memorable experience for the families and highlight Meaning in Colors' commitment to diversity.

“The holidays are a time for joy and giving,” says Iryonna Davis, founder of Meaning in Colors. “We are so grateful for the opportunity to provide these families with a positive holiday experience and help them create lasting memories.”
