OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. -- The first of two community conversations in Ottawa County about the upcoming election takes place October 10 in Grand Haven.
It is at the Loutit District Library from 6 p.m. to 7:30.
A group called Keep Our Republic is partnering with the Ottawa County Clerk's Office to host the community conversations ahead of the November 5 general election. Clerk Justin Roebuck will lead the first discussion. The second event will be October 16 in the Spring Lake District Library at 6:30 p.m. Roebuck and Ottawa County Elections Supervisor Katie Bard will lead that conversation.
Both events will include discussions about recent changes in election law and the measures being taken to ensure a secure presidential election. Information will be supplied about the individual elections.
The discussion will be followed by a question-and-answer session from attendees.
Here is more information from a news release:
“The Ottawa County Elections Division wants to ensure voters know that when they go to the polls on Election Day – or participate absentee or early in-person voting – that their vote is secure and properly processed,” said Roebuck. “We hope these Election Conversations will show that Ottawa County’s election process follows a series of checks and balances, like all Michigan counties, and will give voters confidence when they cast their ballot.”
“In Michigan, we have seen a continuous stream of misinformation and disinformation about the election administration process for several years, and it spreads like wildfire,” said Ari Mittleman, executive director of Keep Our Republic. “Our goal with the Election Community Conversation events in Grand Haven and Spring Lake, is to clarify and debunk the election myths that may hinder voter confidence ahead of the Presidential Election on Nov. 5. We hope Ottawa County voters take the opportunity to attend one of these sessions to learn the intricacies that go into making elections safe and secure, and come out reassured about voting.”
Both events are free to the public. Registration is encouraged, but not required.
