HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says a 78-year-old passenger from Holland was killed when the car she was in collided with an SUV late Wednesday morning.
The location was Riley Street at 112th Avenue. Deputies say an 86-year-old man from Holland was driving a Pontiac sedan westbound on Riley around 11:10 a.m. when it made a left turn. That is when it was struck by a Ford SUV.
Police say a 34-year-old woman from Zeeland was driving the SUV eastbound and, according to eyewitness reports, had the green light.
"The 78-year-old passenger from the Pontiac sedan was transported to Zeeland Community Hospital ER where she passed away from her injuries," the OCSO said in a news release.
The intersection was partially closed during the investigation and cleanup but reopened early Wednesday afternoon.
The Sheriff's Office said its Traffic Services division is continuing to investigate.
Besides the sheriff's office, crews from Holland Township Fire/Rescue and AMR Ambulance also responded.
