Power outage closes most Ottawa County government buildings

WEST OLIVE, Mich. -- Consumers Energy was estimating that power would be restored by 4 p.m. Tuesday in an area impacted by an outage between West Olive and Allendale.

The utility company said on its Outage Map website that 703 customers were impacted as of 2 p.m. The power outage was first reported around 11:30 a.m.

Consumers says the problem was caused by an equipment failure.

Ottawa County announced in a news release that the county Administration Building on Fillmore Street was closed due to the outage.

"This includes the Sheriff's Headquarters, County Clerk-Register of Deeds, Treasurer, Human Resources, Water Resources Commissioner, Strategic Impact, Administration, Equalization, and Fiscal Services," it read.

But the Family Justice Center was not impacted and remained open.

"Other county facility locations, such as Holland, Grand Haven, and Hudsonville, are operating and providing services and hearings as scheduled," the county said in the release.

"Services are available online at miOttawa.org. We expect this issue to be resolved today and that services will resume on March 5."
