Consumers Energy says they are increasing their tree trimming this year in an effort to reduce the frequency and duration of power outages following severe storms
Consumers says fallen trees and limbs caused almost 40% of power outages last year, and with more than 90,000 miles of power lines across the state, the utility has a goal of clearing 8,000 miles of that throughout this year, with 1,000 more miles than last year. The goal for Kent County alone is 550 miles.
Crews were working toward that goal Thursday, just northeast of Kent City.
