A West Michigan company is using worms to reduce food waste.
The company, Wormies, gives families a five-gallon bucket to put food scaps in. The buckets are picked up and the waste is brought to the farm where it is dumped into the pile.
The waste is then mixed with woodchips and other organic material. The material is then moved after 30 days into a field and red wiggler worms are added to process the material for 12 months.
The material is then sifted and turned into a nutrient-rich soil. Members receive a bag of the soil every eight weeks.
