Grand Rapids ranks among worst cities for ozone pollution

The American Lung Association is ranking Grand Rapids the 27th worst city in the U.S. for ozone pollution.

The city averaged more than nine unhealthy air days per year between 2020 and 2022 and received an "F" grade for ozone levels.

Grand Rapids received a "D" ranking for recording three unhealthy days for particle pollution. The days were largely caused by drifting wildfire smoke from Canada.

Poor air quality can lead to serious health problems.
