Western Michigan University selects new president

KALAMAZOO (WOOD-AM) - Russ Kavalhuna, a Kalamazoo native and Western Michigan University graduate, has been chosen to be the next president at WMU.

Trustees selected him to be the university's 10th president yesterday.

He will succeed Edward Montgomery when he enters retirement in June

Kavalhuna called it his dream job and says he will "be the advocate for why Western Michigan University is the top university in our region and in our state."

Kavalhuna is currently the president of Henry Ford College, a community college in Dearborn, and graduated from WMU with a bachelor's in aviation science.
