Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ordering U.S. and Michigan flags across the state be flown at half-staff on Friday in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Troy Smith Knutson-Collins.
The 28-year-old was killed during a tactical training exercise in Lithuania in March.
Knutson-Collins was a father of five and grew up near Battle Creek.
He enlisted in 2017 and was stationed at Fort Stewart in Georgia.
