East Grand Rapids announces free concert and movies series lineups

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- East Grand Rapids Parks & Recreation has announced the lineups for its free summer entertainment series.

The Concerts in the Park will take place on select Mondays, and the Movies in the Park will be held on select Friday evenings at John Collins Park. The band Cold Leather Seats will perform the first concert on June 9th. The Movies in the Park series begins June 13th with "The Fall Guy."

On six select Monday evenings in June and July, the Concert in the Park series will feature a variety of musical genres from 7-8:30 p.m. This year’s lineup is:

  • June 9 – Cold Leather Seats
  • June 16 – Erin & Tracy
  • June 23 – Max Lockwood
  • July 7 – Bailey & Ellie
  • July 14 – Eric O’Daly
  • July 21 – Vespa

Movies in the Park will take place on four Friday evenings, with each film beginning at sundown. This year’s movie lineup is:

  • June 13 – “Fall Guy”
  • June 20 – “Twisters”
  • July 11 – “IF”
  • Aug. 1 – “Mufasa”

“Each year, the Parks and Recreation team secures talented musicians and selects popular movies for residents of all ages to enjoy,” said Pam Slater, leisure supervisor. “We look forward to seeing friends, neighbors and families gather and enjoy the entertainment and ambiance of John Collins Park on a summer evening.”

In the event of rain or high winds, the events will be canceled and not rescheduled. Updates will be provided on the Parks and Recreation Department Facebook page.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets and to arrive early to secure a spot. Barbeques, grills and open fires are not allowed. Dogs must be leashed.

Only alcoholic beverages purchased at qualified EGR Social District businesses are permitted. John Collins Park is part of the City’s social district. Attendees ages 21 years and older can now consume alcoholic beverages sold by qualified Gaslight Village establishments within the designated social zone. Beverages must be consumed in the branded social district cups.

The social district will be open from 11 a.m.-10 p.m. during the summer season, which runs from the first Monday after the end of the East Grand Rapids Public Schools academic year in June through the first Sunday before the start of the next school year in August.
