Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office has determined Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson violated the Michigan Campaign Finance Act.
The ruling was in response to complaints that Benson used the Richard H. Austin Building lobby to hold a press conference to announce her run for governor on January 22.
The complaint was filed by the Michigan Republican Party.
The office says under the regulations, they have no authority to impose a civil or criminal penalty for the violation.
