Will MI Attorney General retry the case against Christopher Schurr?

The future of the murder case against former Grand Rapids police officer Christopher Schurr could be in the hands of the Michigan Attorney General.

Kent County prosecutor Chris Becker announced last week that he will not pursue the case any further following a mistrial.

Becker was asked if Attorney General Dana Nessel could take over the prosecution herself. Becker said Nessel technically could although she never has before.

Becker says his office has not heard from Nessel's office.

The Greater Grand Rapids NAACP and the Urban League of West Michigan have asked Nessel to prosecute the case.

Schurr was facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to the death of Patrick Lyoya.
