GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Michigan State Police say a fatal crash occurred Wednesday morning in downtown Grand Rapids when a van hit a pickup truck that was disabled in the center lane of northbound US-131.
The van was then struck by a semi-truck and the driver and a passenger in the van were ejected from the vehicle. Police say the passenger in the van and two passengers in the pickup suffered serious injuries. The 35-year-old man who was driving the van was killed.
It happened around 5:50 a.m. and snarled traffic for three-and-a-half hours in the freeway's northbound lanes. State troopers and fire-rescue personnel responded and blocked off all but one lane until the crash was cleared.
As of 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, no names of those involved in the crash had been released yet, as MSP was reaching out to the victims' families members and investigating it further.
