MACKINAC ISLAND (WOOD-AM) - Consumers Energy's chief executive says it will be difficult keeping the J.H. Campbell Plant operational.
The facility in West Olive is the utility's last coal-fired power plant.
"We had people that were going to retire at closure, we had people that were going to move on to other jobs," CEO Garrick Rochow told WOOD-TV. "And so you're asking people to stay on another 90 days. Well, is it just 90 days, or is it more than 90 days? We can't answer that question."
"It’s very challenging to continue operation, if you might imagine the people piece of it," he said.
The plant was originally scheduled to close tomorrow and demolition was planned to take place next year.
The emergency order from the Trump Administration said the plant must stay open due to potential blackout and security risks.
