Kent County Sheriff mystified why feds had Kent on 'Sanctuary County' list

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young refutes the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's listing of Kent County as a "sanctuary jurisdiction."

The sheriff said it is not clear why the feds claimed Kent County was a sanctuary county before the DHS removed it from its website.

"The Kent County Sheriff’s Office has consistently worked in coordination with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners," LaJoye-Young said in a news release.

She added, "We are working with federal officials to better understand how this error occurred and to ensure the public record accurately reflects Kent County’s policies and practices."

The KCSO said it is waiting for further clarification from the DHS.
