Here is more information from a City of Grand Rapids news release:
The City of Grand Rapids is once again inviting residents to strengthen their neighborhoods through the Neighborhood Match Fund (NMF), which supports community-led projects that foster connection, inclusion and civic pride.
Applications are open now through June 30 for projects occurring between September and February 2026. The NMF awards between $500 and $5,000 to resident-led initiatives that promote belonging and improve quality of life in Grand Rapids neighborhoods.
Since launching in 2017, the fund has invested more than $1 million in 311 projects, amplifying grassroots efforts across the city.
New this round, the City has introduced a special project category in support of Welcoming Week 2025, which takes place September 12–21. Celebrated nationwide, Welcoming Week highlights the value of diverse communities through events, art, speakers and more. This year’s theme, “The Spirit of Generosity,” calls attention to philanthropy and the importance of building inclusive communities.
All projects funded through the NMF must be inclusive, community-centered and led by a Grand Rapids resident from the neighborhood impacted by the project. The Office of Equity and Engagement is particularly excited to see creative ideas that align with this year’s Welcoming Week theme.
Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the NMF coordinator and OEE staff for eligibility and alignment with the program’s goals. A diverse, community-led review team will then evaluate projects for recommendation and approval. Selected applicants will collaborate with City staff to finalize project scope, expectations and inclusive outreach strategies.
