The City of Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department says the Richmond Park Pool opening will be delayed due to a mechanical problem.
Staff caught a pump failure early and were able to order a new part, however the opening date will be delayed.
"While we're disappointed that we have to delay the opening of Richmond Park Pool, we're grateful to have caught the issue early and get a new pump ordered," said David Marquardt, department director. "We're hopeful we can have the pool open again the week of June 23."
The mechanical problem meant the pool was not getting chlorine. Staff has drained the pool in preparation for the arrival of the new pump.
People who have signed up for swim lessons at the pool will be contacted.
The pools at Briggs and MLK Jr. parks will open as scheduled on June 6. The pools are open Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesdays through Saturdays from noon until 7 p.m.
