Frederik Meijer Gardens installs brand new 20-foot sculpture

Frederick Meijer Gardens has just installed a brand new 20-foot-tall sculpture for display.

The sculpture, titled Bronze Bowl with Lace, was created by prominent sculptor Ursula von Rydingsvard. It will serve as a new focal point for the garden and concert venue

In a news release Suzanne Ramljak, Vice President of Collections and Curatorial Affairs, said, “Ursula von Rydingsvard is one of the most compelling sculptors working today, and we are delighted to have her work enter our collection with such a grand and powerful example as Bronze Bowl with Lace,"

Most of von Rydingsvard's work is composed of abstract shapes that refer to everyday objects such as bowls, vessels or tools. In Bronze Bowl with Lace, von Rydingsvard translates wood to bronze within the sculpture to give it a latticework like appearance. Meijer Gardens installed the large sculpture on May 13.

"Bronze Bowl with Lace was my first monumental bronze sculpture and the first to incorporate openwork ‘lace’ in bronze so that one can see the sky through its upper crown,” said von Rydingsvard. “I am thrilled this sculpture has a permanent home at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park."
