Woman acquitted of felony charge related to MSP officer's death

SAGINAW COUNTY (WOOD-AM) - A woman has been acquitted of a felony related to the crash that led to the death of Michigan State Police officer Joel Popp.

Popp was outside his conducting a traffic stop on Brooke Allen's vehicle on Interstate 75 near Birch Run and had just laid down road flares when he was struck by Duncan Erving, 81.

At the time, Allen was high on methamphetamine.

Allen was was charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, but was convicted of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, which is a misdemeanor.

Erving will face a felony charge at trial next week.
