BOWNE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- For the sixth year in a row, the Wildwood Family Farms in Bowne Township are holding a series of six concerts this summer.
The stage is set up on a portion of the 55-acre farm at 7970 Snow Avenue, south of 76th Street in the Alto area.
Soul Syndicate performed a blues concert last Friday that drew about 450 people. The next show will be July 11th at 7 p.m., featuring the Simply in Time Band.
Justin Heyboer and his wife, Kelly, have owned Wildwood Farms for about 24 years. Justin tells WOOD Radio it's a relaxed family atmosphere that is family- and pet-friendly.
"So, there's family with kids. They're being spread out all across the farm. And some people with sit up in the Beer Garden and just use the band as background music and hang out with their friends. And some people will be front-row seat and watch the band," Justin Heyboer said in a phone interview.
There are multiple food trucks and two full bars. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the cover charge at the door is $10, with kids under age 16 getting in free.
"We try and keep it small and more of an intimate-type setting," Heyboer said. "The intention is not to let it grow too big, which is kind of a harder thing to have happen."
The township only allows Wildwood to hold a maximum of six concerts per year.
"Which is fine because we're basically a private-event venue. So, we do weddings, corporate events," Heyboer said. "I think if you do it more than once a month it loses some of its anticipation of coming out to the farm. We have a lot of our regulars who show up every time ... we have some who have never missed a concert."
