The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is awarding grants to six local communities for tree projects.
The grants range from $23,000 up to $144,000. A total of 15 grants were given statewide.
Crystal Township in Montcalm County was awarded $133,112 for public tree inventory, a community orchard and a future tree planting management plan.
The village of Lakeview is receiving $95,172 for trees to be plants along streets and in parks.
The city of Ionia will use $30,000 to plant trees in neighborhoods with low tree canopy cover.
