CHIPPEWA TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - Mecosta County Sheriff's deputies say two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition following a solo crash at 80th Avenue and 23 Mile Road in Chippewa Township.

The crash happened yesterday around 5:15 p.m.

A 61-year-old Barryton woman was southbound when she lost control, left the pavement and hit a tree.

The passenger, a 78-year-old Barryton man, was flown to a hospital.

The driver was taken to a different hospital.

Neither person was wearing a seat belt, deputies said.

Investigators think speed was a factor.
