MDOT to hold public meeting on MLK Jr. bridge project

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation is holding a public meeting on Wednesday to discuss the planned work to the Martin Luther King Jr. Street bridge over US-131.

MDOT says roughly 700 feet of the bridge from the northbound US-131 ramp to the east end of the bridge will be replaced, costing $30 million. Officials will provide project details, scheduling information and expected traffic impacts at the meeting. The public is invited to stop by anytime to learn more about the work, provide comment and ask questions.

The meeting will be held at the Grand Rapid Fire Department at 115 Martin Luther King Jr. St. SE. Parking will be available on Graham and Ionia streets. The meeting will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and individuals can enter the fire station through the entrance off Graham Street.

"Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely," said Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
