The pilot who died in a small plane crash on Sunday at the Ottawa Executive Airport lived along the air strip and built his plane from a kit.
Airport officials and neighbors identified the man as 80-year-old Robert Fidler.
FAA records show Fidler built the fixed-wing, two-seater Lancair 360 aircraft in 2022. The FAA approved the plane as airworthy in October 2023.
Airport officials say the crash happened just before 11 a.m. Sunday.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
