64 workers laid off at Walker plant after government contract cancellation

Steel fabrication company Plasan North America has laid off 64 employees in Walker this month due to a government contract cancellation, which accounts for nearly half of the local plant's work crew.

Plasan was awarded a $300 million subcontract to provide the U.S. Army with parts for armored military vehicles in 2023. That contract was scheduled to run for five years. It's not certain at this time whether that is the same canceled contract that led to the layoffs.
