Mike Sadler Legacy Celebration on Sunday to benefit foundation for youth

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- People attending Sunday's Mike Sadler Legacy Celebration can expect to see a heavy Michigan State theme at the ninth annual fundraiser.

It will run from noon to 3 p.m. at Atwater Brewery, 201 Michigan St. NW, in Grand Rapids.

The event raises funds to support the Michael Sadler Foundation's work with youth in the Greater Grand Rapids area. Sadler was the former Spartans' punter who died in a car crash in Wisconsin in 2016. His mother, Karen Sadler, mentioned on West Michigan's Morning News who will be attending Sunday's event.

"We have the Spartan marching band coming over. We have the cheerleaders coming over from Lansing. We have (the mascot) Sparty himself. We have Zeke the Wonderdog. We have Pronto Pups coming in. Every paid admission has two Pronto Pups with it. Also, two beers courtesy of Atwater Brewery," Karen Sadler said.

She told WMMN hosts Steve Kelly and Lauren Smith that the Legacy Celebration gets bigger each year. And organizers expect between 350 and 400 people to attend this year. The sidewalk will be closed in front of the bar to accommodate the crow.

As for other items you will find at Sunday's fundraiser, "We have brand new souvenir glasses this year that Mike would be really proud of. Mike liked a bourbon once in a while and these are nice rocks glasses, so I can't say any more about those, but you'll see when you come. We have new Zeke and Mike magnets. It's just so much fun with the places loaded with balloons and fun and food, and you just need to come down. Really, we encourage you, please be my guests."

Tickets may be available at the door for 50-dollars, but to ensure admission you can purchase them on the EventBrite.com website.
