HESPERIA, Mich. -- A water main break in the Village of Hesperia has left about 400 residents there without municipal water.
The village announced on its website and social media that the break happened around 9:30 Monday morning at Cook Street and M-20 when contractors hit an unmarked water line. It happened during a replacement project. As of late Monday afternoon, there was no word yet when the repairs will be completed.
The village says a 48-hour Boil Water Notice will take effect once that is done, and that residents in the village should boil their water before drinking it.
"Bring all water to a boil. Let it boil for one minute and let it cool before using, or use bottled water," the village said on its website. "Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Continue using boiled or bottled water until further notice."
The village said there was a loss of water pressure. Once the water line is repaired, maintenance crews will collect bacteriological samples from around the system to ensure that the water quality meets state drinking water standards.
