ZEELAND (WOOD-AM) - City councilors in Zeeland have approved Mead Johnson's request to rezone residential parcels near its factory to industrial.
The company says it will demolish eight townhomes and a single-family residence with a barn, then incorporate the land into an plant modernization project.
There's no word yet as to when construction will start on the $836 million expansion.
"Tonight's City Council vote in favor of our rezoning application will enable essential upgrades to our facility and support the vital work of our nearly 500 local employees to provide high-quality nutrition for infants," a statement from the company after the vote said.
The vote was 6-1.
