WEBBER TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Michigan State Police say exceptional investigative work led to the safe dismantling of an illicit marijuana growing operation in Lake County.
Investigators reported to WOOD Radio in a news release that detectives from their Marijuana & Tobacco Investigation Section executed a search warrant Wednesday in the Baldwin area and rounded up more than 13,400 plants and hundreds of pounds of dried marijuana flower. It had a street value of more than $10 million.
State Police said the suspects did not have a valid license. Several people were arrested at the scene.
Here are more details from the MSP Sixth District news release:
The building where the plants were located was over 17,000 square feet on 19 acres.
Neither the property nor the suspects identified were found to have valid licensure through the Cannabis Regulatory Agency confirming this operation was producing marijuana contrary to Michigan law. Multiple individuals were arrested at the scene.
Cannabis produced in illegal operations like this often contains harmful substances—including hazardous chemicals, pesticides, mold, and heavy metals—that pose serious health risks to unsuspecting consumers.
The street value of this large seizure is estimated at more than 10 million dollars. Once the investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Michigan Attorney General for further review and potential added criminal charges.
