ZEELAND TOWNSHIP (WOOD-AM) - The National Transportation Safety Board says a plane crash that killed an 80-year-old in Zeeland Township last month happened as the aircraft was rolling to the left in a steep bank.

That finding was in a preliminary report from the NTSB.

The crash happened June 29 at the Ottawa Executive Airport. It killed 80-year-old Robert Fidler.

"Shortly after rotation, the airplane began to roll to the left, and the roll continued until the airplane was in a steep bank angle," the report said.

The NTSB said the nose of the plane later "pitched down" and crashed into the ground about 100 feet east of the center of the runway.

The full report may not be released for another year or two years.
