Police blame distracted driving in serious-injury crash on M-66 in Ionia Co

ORLEANS TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ionia County Sheriff's Office figures distracted driving played a role in a crash that left a 68-year-old woman from Fenwick in critical condition.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. yesterday on M-66 near Woods Road in Orleans Township.

Deputies said on the ICSO Facebook page that the woman's car was stopped at the intersection waiting to turn into a gas station when it was hit at a high rate of speed from behind by another car. Police say 24-year-old man from Portland was behind the wheel of that vehicle. He and a passenger had minor injuries.

Assisting at the scene were first responders from Belding, Orleans, and Ronald Fire departments, Ionia Department of Public Safety, Belding Police Department, Life Ambulance, Ionia County Central Dispatch, Ionia County Road Department, and Reed & Hoppes Towing.
