WALKER, Mich. -- Consumers Energy reports fewer than 50 homes and businesses in the Walker area were still waiting for restoration of their electrical service as of 4:45p.m. Friday, following a pair of unrelated incidents.
The Consumers Outage Map had reported nearly 400 outages around 4 p.m., so repair crews were making rapid progress.
A DTE Energy spokesman phoned WOOD Radio to say a construction contractor hit a gas main along Fruit Ridge Avenue at Dykstra Road. That was around 1:50 p.m.
DTE says crews repaired that problem, but then an unrelated incident occurred a short time later nearby in which a dump truck struck a utility pole. Some roads and businesses were shut down in the construction area.
