GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The city of Grand Rapids is asking the public to help pick the official commemorative poster for its 175th anniversary celebration.
Dozens of pieces were submitted and the city's Art Advisory Committee selected three finalists. The community now gets to vote for their favorite.
"Blueprint" by Steve Wammack is a line-drawing collage of the city's civic and cultural institutions. The piece uses celebratory colors and a blueprint theme to represent growth and planning.
"Primary Grand Rapids" by Sarah Aldrich is a vibrant piece highlighting Grand Rapids, art, nature and family life. The piece uses the color palette chosen for the 175th anniversary branding.
"Scenes from the City" by Jack Markosky is a lively depiction of everyday moments and Grand Rapids landmarks. The piece includes the skyline, Rosa Parks Circle and the Calder sculpture.
The posters will be displayed at City Hall during ArtPrize and each finalist will receive a cash prize.
"This competition is a celebration of the creativity and community spirit that define Grand Rapids," said Doug Matthews, assistant city manager. "We're excited to see which design connects most with our residents and their impression of this commemorative year."
The community can vote here through September 5.
