Police say charges enhanced in Ionia Township OWI fatal crash

IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ionia County Sheriff's Office says the alleged driver of a vehicle involved in an intoxicated-driving crash on August 14 faces a stronger charge, now that someone has died from it.

It occurred on M-66 at Dildine Road in Ionia Township late that afternoon.

The sheriff's office says the Ionia County Prosecutor's Office amended its charges and Steven Nathaniel Lindgren was arraigned this week for Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death. He had been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Injury. Police say his pickup truck did not stop at a stop sign and collided with another pickup.

Two other people in the second vehicle were seriously injured.

The sheriff's office says Lindgren is being held in the county jail on a $60,000 bond.
