(Muskegon, Mi) The Muskegon County Health Department has issued a health advisory because several birds were found dead from what appears to be the bird flu. Mike Eslick the Operations Manager for the health department says that about a dozen birds were found dead near Resource Recovery Center. He says they are still running test but it does appear to be the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI)
Eslick added that the chance of a human contracting the virus is small but they would rather error on the side of caution than not. The advisory area covers the recreation area near the Recovery Center. He says that if you encounter a dead bird do not touch and give them a call.
It is not uncommon for this type of thing to happen during migration season, millions of birds are making the trip south for the winter.
