CANNON TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Kent County Parks Department will honor a century of memories at Townsend Park's Centennial Celebration on September 30.
It will run from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the park on 6 Mile Road at Ramsdell Drive in the Cannonsburg area of Cannon Township. Starting at 4 p.m., the Honey Creek Inn will offer food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks for purchase in the park's shelter, where the Historical Society will also host a display. There will be a 5-K Fun Run at 6 p.m., followed by a Gravel Bike Ride at 6:15.

Since its founding in 1925, Townsend Park has welcomed Kent County families, organizations, and visitors for picnics, reunions, outdoor breakfasts, and open-air church services. Join us as we celebrate its rich history and create new memories with a full day of festivities, including:
- Nature Programming: Join Blandford Nature Center for a Bumblebee Nature Walk from 11 a.m.–12 p.m., Discovering Owls from 12:45–1:45 p.m., Nature Crafts from 2:30–3:30 p.m., and a Sensory Experience from 4–5 p.m.
- Stewardship Projects: Participate in a Stewardship Learning Day from 1–5 p.m. and help care for the park. Register at kentcountymi.gov/events
- Food, Drinks & History: Starting at 4 p.m., Honey Creek Inn will serve food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic drinks for purchase in the park's shelter, where the Historical Society will also host a display. While the menu is still being finalized, guests can expect a barbeque theme.
- Recreational Events: Celebrate with a 5K Fun Run at 6 p.m., featuring a 2.5K or 5K self-paced loop with a clock, followed by a Gravel Bike Ride at 6:15 p.m. with two 17-mile loops, including a family-friendly first loop.
This centennial is a chance to reflect on 100 years of shared history, honor the vision of Warren R. Townsend who helped establish our park system, and enjoy the natural beauty and recreational opportunities the park continues to offer.
