Great Lakes Bee Company breaks out some new honey lines

FREMONT, Mich. -- A company that promotes the importance of beekeeping and touting how it benefits Michigan's economy is launching two new honey lines this month.

Great Lakes Bee Company said in a news release that it is in celebration of Honey Harvest Month. GLBC is known for its Hasselman’s Honey brand available at retailers like Whole Foods, Meijer and other locations.

The Michigan Wild Honey is raw, unfiltered honey collected from hives across Michigan. SayLa Bee Infused Honey is pure, unfiltered, raw Michigan honey that is infused with a variety of flavors.

Here is the news release from Seyferth PR:

Great Lakes Bee Company (GLBC), which has experienced 900 percent growth in sales since 2004, and harvests over 150,00 pounds of honey each year, has launched two new Michigan-made honey lines: Michigan Wild Honey and SayLa Bee Infused honey in recognition of National Honey Harvest Month this September.

GLBC, known for its Hasselman’s Honey brand available at retailers like Whole Foods, Meijer and other locations, hand bottles all of its honey at its facility in Fremont.

The new Michigan Wild Honey is raw, unfiltered honey collected from hives across Michigan. The honey is carefully extracted, strained and filled without overheating. SayLa Bee Infused honey is pure, unfiltered, raw Michigan honey that is infused with a variety of flavors, such as: lemon, cinnamon, rose petal, pepper, lavender flower, cherry, orange, and cocoa bean.

“We are thrilled to unveil our new Michigan Wild Honey and SayLa Bee Infused honey lines that are sourced and hand bottled right here in Michigan,” said GLBC owner and expert beekeeper Genji Leclair. “The summer harvest of our Michigan Wild Honey captures the diverse flavors of area wildflowers, flowering trees, clover, lavender and thistle all blended into a lovely natural mix of medium-amber Michigan deliciousness.

Then we have a lot of fun being creative with flavors to craft our SayLa Bee Infused honey that not only tastes delightful, but also nourishes the body and soul – rose calms and relaxes, while orange supports immunity, and chocolate is a mood booster. Every ingredient that we use adds vitality to our food and health.”

Michigan Wild Honey comes in 22 ounce and 44 ounce glass jars, a 16-ounce inverted squeezable plastic bottle, a 12-ounce squeezable plastic honey bear bottle, and a 12-pound plastic jug.

SayLa Bee Infused honey is available in 6 ounce and 12 ounce glass jars in a variety of flavors, including: apricot, blueberry, bourbon, chai, cherry, chocolate, cinnamon, ginger, habanero, lavender, lemon, orange, peach, rose and strawberry.

“Our SayLa Bee Infused honey tastes delicious on its own, and also enhances ice cream, tea, cheese – really anything,” said Leclair. “Drizzle it on everything for a flavorful, wholesome boost!”

In West Michigan, the bees forage on basswood, alfalfa, star thistle, and West Michigan flowers each spring and summer. In 2024, GLBC bottled 150,000 pounds of Michigan honey, and sold additional beeswax products, such as candles and bulk wax. Throughout the past 10 years – from 2004 to 2024, Great Lakes Bee Company saw tremendous growth in annual sales, increasing from $80,000 to $800,000, and is growing even more in 2025.

“As a small business, we take great care in nurturing bees to produce quality honey and beeswax products that support our region’s economy and agriculture,” said Leclair. “When consumers buy from Great Lakes Bee Company, they are not only buying quality items, but they’re supporting a local company that is passionate about beekeeping and nourishing the environment.”
