GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Grand Rapids' Happy Cat Cafe has reached a significant milestone by adopting out its 1,000th cat. Located on Division Avenue near Logan Street, the cafe opened in 2017 and partners with Fig and Friends Pet Rescue to house adoptable cats. Guests can play with the cats, helping them become more sociable and ready for adoption.
The Parisian family, who recently lost a cat, adopted the milestone cat, a black kitten named Mountain, to provide companionship for their remaining pet. In celebration, they received a plaque, a year of free cafe visits, and merchandise.
Owner Katie Quarto expressed her excitement about reaching this goal and is now aiming for 2,000 adoptions. She emphasized the importance of the cafe in helping cats find homes and freeing up resources for other cats in need. Quarto encouraged people to visit the cafe, donate, or volunteer to support local rescues. She also highlighted the importance of spaying and neutering pets to reduce the number of cats needing homes.
Quarto said, "Happy Cat does the fun part of the adoptions and finding new homes for these cats." She hopes for fewer cats needing adoption in the future due to the limited space available in shelters.
