GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The new Acrisure Amphitheater in Grand Rapids will host its inaugural concert on Friday, May 15, 2026, featuring Motown legend Lionel Richie. Richie, who is also an Acrisure brand ambassador, expressed his excitement, saying, "I am so honored to be the first artist to perform at Acrisure Amphitheater. The energy is out there; I can feel the buzz already." The amphitheater, located next to the Grand River, boasts a seating capacity of 12,000 and is expected to become a significant draw for tourists and music fans alike.
Opening the show will be Brian Vander Ark, the lead singer of The Verve Pipe, followed by the country duo The War and Treaty. Vander Ark, who grew up in west Michigan, shared his excitement about performing in his home state, remembering the times he had to travel to Kalamazoo or Muskegon to see concerts. The War and Treaty, comprised of husband and wife Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter, are Michigan natives who have gained recognition for their soulful music and were nominated for Best New Artist at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
The amphitheater is part of a $184 million project spearheaded by the Grand Rapids–Kent County Convention/Arena Authority. It is expected to generate significant economic impact, with projections of $807 million over 30 years. The venue will host 54 concerts and events annually, attracting approximately 300,000 visitors each year.
Tickets for the opening concert will go on sale on Friday, November 21, with presales starting on November 20. Following the opening concert, a free community open house will be held, featuring performances by local artists.
