MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. -- Deangelo Aubrey, a 42-year-old man, faces charges of open murder for the deaths of Sa-shae Spears and Shelenthia Willis in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. Prosecutors allege that Aubrey recorded the killings, which occurred on Monday (November 17). During his arraignment on Thursday (November 20), Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson stated that Aubrey had romantic relationships with both women.
Chief Muskegon County Trial Attorney Matt Roberts described the videos as "very short" but noted the shocking brutality involved. The prosecutor's office plans to seek a first-degree murder conviction, which would result in a life sentence without parole. Aubrey was on parole for a previous assault conviction at the time of the murders.
Aubrey was arrested late Monday night, hours after the bodies were discovered. Spears was found dead in her home on Hoyt Street, while Willis was found in a vehicle near 6th Street and Delano Avenue. Aubrey was apprehended at a Walgreens in Muskegon Township.
The prosecutor's office has met with the victims' families to discuss the legal process. Roberts emphasized the commitment to ensuring Aubrey remains incarcerated for life if convicted. Aubrey is currently held without bond as the investigation continues.
