GRAND HAVEN, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office has released the booking photo of a stabbing suspect in Grand Haven.
On Thursday, a judge arraigned 23-year-old Jason Vernado after he allegedly forced his way into a home Tuesday in Grand Haven, and stabbed the homeowner and his dog.
The dog, "Chief," died and the 68-year-old homeowner is recovering. It happened on New Holland Street in Olive Township.
Varnado was charged with first-degree home invasion, third-degree killing or torturing an animal, and felonious assault.
The dog is being hailed by family and police for coming to homeowner's aid during the attack.
