ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. -- It was a tragic holiday in one lakeshore county on Thanksgiving Day.
Allegan County Sheriff's investigators attribute a head-on crash in Heath Township on Thursday evening to slippery road conditions. It happened around 6:30 p.m.
Deputies said a pickup truck veered onto the wrong side of Lincoln Road (M-40) near 127th Avenue. The driver of a third vehicle then tried to brake but slid into the other two vehicles. No one in that third vehicle was hurt, nor in the pickup truck. But police said the driver and three people inside the second vehicle were taken to a hospital, one with serious injuries.
An earlier head-on crash in Allegan County on Thursday afternoon left one person dead and three others hospitalized.
That one happened around 1:30 p.m. in Overisel Township. Sheriff's deputies tell WOOD Radio a car crossed the road into the path of a pickup truck on 142nd Avenue near 41st Street.
A front-seat passenger in the car was killed, and three other people were injured. That included a woman who was taken to the hospital in critical condition and a toddler who was in stable condition.
The sheriff's office said investigators were considering alcohol as a possible contributing factor.
